On a delightfully warm evening, the residents at Grove Place were treated to an unforgettable performance by the immensely talented Soul and Motown singer, Cheyne ‘Queenie’ Moore.
The evening was warmly opened by our compère for the night, Barry, who introduced Queenie and shared a glimpse into her extraordinary background. Born in Florida, USA, Queenie has been singing professionally since childhood, achieving notable success including a hit record in America. Twenty years ago, she chose to make the UK her home, bringing her brilliant talent and vibrant energy to our shores.
Describing Queenie’s performance leaves one almost at a loss for words – she is simply a phenomenal, vibrant performer who engages with her audience on every level. From the very first note, her warmth and charm filled the room. The repertoire offered something for everyone, featuring beloved hits from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. Guests enthusiastically sang along to timeless classics made famous by iconic artists such as The Carpenters, Diana Ross, Etta James, Little Eva, and The Supremes, as well as a poignant rendition of The Platters’ Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.
As Queenie performed Mary Hopkin’s classic Those Were the Days, the atmosphere was filled with fond memories and joyful nostalgia.
