Empowering Independence: Highlights from Care Home Open Week with GB Physio

As part of our vibrant celebrations for Care Home Open Week, we were absolutely delighted to welcome Gemma Brown from GB Physio to our home last week. Gemma delivered a fantastic, highly practical Falls Prevention Session tailored beautifully for our community.

The interactive workshop focused on proactive steps everyone can take to maintain stability, build confidence, and ensure safety during daily movements. The atmosphere was full of positive energy as residents eagerly participated and learned how small adjustments to strength, balance, and environmental awareness can make a massive difference to their safety and overall well-being.

Gemma graduated from Physiotherapy with a first class honours in 2014. Since this time, she completed rehabilitation rotations in two of the leading teaching hospitals in London, before moving to private practice in 2020. She helps clients take action towards their goals through evidence-based, exercise focused treatment. Gemma has a genuine passion for what she does, she takes the time to listen and understand the person, to tailor care to each person’s needs and achieve goals together.

The Falls Prevention session

During the session, our residents completed the comprehensive “Get Up and Go” checklist. This offered practical tools and guidance invaluable for identifying personal areas of vulnerability and establishing clear action points to reduce the risk of trips or falls.

Of the session, Gemma said,

“I had a wonderful time visiting The Albert Suites and Battersea Place for Care Home Open Week! The energy in the room was fantastic, and it was a real pleasure to see the residents engaging so enthusiastically with the Falls Prevention Session and offering advice, ideas and input, whilst sharing their own experiences. Everyone put 100% effort into completing their ‘Get Up and Go’ checklists. My main hope is that the tips we shared give everyone some clear, practical action points to help reduce their risks, get the right support, and continue living the fantastic independent lifestyle that Battersea Place and The Albert Suites support. I highly recommend that the residents follow up with their GP or a physiotherapist for personalised advice so they can keep building on the great momentum we started today!

A huge thank you to Gemma Brown for sharing her expertise, warmth, and actionable insights with our community! You can reach out to Gemma using the details below:
